ICYDK: The Sequel for Super Mario Bros. Movie Is Now Underway!
Get ready to jump into a world of adventure once again! Nintendo and Illumination Entertainment announced that the highly anticipated sequel to the Super Mario Bros. movie is set to hit theatres on April 3, 2026.
Following the tremendous success of the original Super Mario Bros movie in 2023, the sequel — which will be coming almost three years after the release of the original film — promises to take audiences on another epic adventure through the colourful and whimsical world of the Mushroom Kingdom.
In case you don’t know, the first film was a box office hit! Grossing over US$1 billion worldwide, it became the highest-grossing animated film in Universal history. No wonder fans were clamouring for a sequel!
According to Illumination Entertainment CEO Chris Meledandri, the upcoming film will introduce new ideas and characters to watch out for. While the production is already underway, the animation is yet to begin.
Revealed during a special video for Mario Day, celebrated on March 10 (or MAR10), the news was met with excitement from fans eagerly awaiting the return of Mario, Luigi, and their friends to the big screen.
